A Celebration of Faith and Community in Railaco

The Jesuit Mission in Railaco is more than an apostolic work — it is a living opportunity to bring Christ closer to His people. Over two grace-filled days, the community witnessed a powerful testimony of faith through the Confirmation Mass and the inauguration of two new chapels in Railaco Leten; Samalete and Deleço.

Under the leadership of Fr. Roberto Madeira Encarnação, (Fr. Roby) SJ, Parish Priest of Railaco, the Jesuits worked hand in hand with local authorities and the government to build these chapels — symbols of unity and faith standing strong on the mountain. These sacred spaces will serve as a gathering place for the faithful to deepen their relationship with God.

The local community, represented by the Xefe Suku (village chief), expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who made this mission possible — especially to the Jesuit donors and benefactors who continually support the Jesuit works and mission in Timor-Leste.

More than 300 young Catholics received the Sacrament of Confirmation during the inauguration of the Samalete Chapel “Santa Teresinha, Mãe de Menino Jesus”. The Mass was presided over by Cardinal Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, SDV, and concelebrated by Jesuit priests Fr. Roby, SJ; Fr. Moreira, SJ (Vicar); Fr. Nelinho, SJ; along with missionaries from various nations, Fr. Bong, SJ; Fr. Dominic, SJ; and Fr. Hyoe, SJ,

In his homily, His Eminence emphasized, “Let Jesus be the owner of this church, so that He may gather everyone in His love and help them deepen their faith day by day. For one day, people will be gone, but Christ remains forever.”

The joy of the people was evident — a celebration of gratitude, faith, and hope. This moment reflected the fruits of hard work and collaboration between the Jesuits and the local community, bearing witness to how faith can truly transform lives.

The following day, another 200 young Catholics received their Confirmation Sacrament at the Railaco Parish, again presided by Cardinal Virgílio. After the Mass, His Eminence also blessed the new Jesuit residence in Railaco.

We are deeply grateful to all our donors, partners, and supporters — for your prayers, financial assistance, and physical help that make this mission possible. Together, we continue to bring Christ closer to the people and keep Him at the center of daily life in Railaco.
