“A Journey of Grace: Reflecting on God’s Love During Retreat”

A retreat is an essential time and opportunity to think deeply and discern the events of my past while preparing for what lies ahead. It offers me a sacred space to meet officially with God—a golden moment for every person. It is an excellent chance to share my struggles, pain, and difficulties, reflecting on the challenges I have faced and those I continue to encounter.

A retreat is truly a time of grace—a time to calm myself, to look back on the events and experiences that have shaped me. For me, this retreat provided a moment to reflect on my journey of study and learning at the Instituto de São João de Brito (ISJB). It became a time for me to integrate myself more fully into God’s presence, seeking His wisdom, love, and strength. It was an opportunity to nurture my faith and prepare myself to respond generously to God’s plan.

As a Christian, a believer, and especially a future teacher, this retreat reminded me to bring everyone I encounter—whether they have brought joy or challenges—into my prayers. The retreat, held on November 14, 2024, at Cassait Montserrat, was a collaborative effort by ISJB and served as an obligation for every student to recollect and reflect on their personal and academic experiences. Father Roberto Encarnacão, S.J., led this retreat, offering reflections drawn from the Bible to guide us in personal prayer.

During the retreat, I went deeper into the points raised by the Scriptures, reflecting on questions relevant to my life. I began by recalling my simple beginnings, embracing a heart full of love and compassion, and creating meaningful connections within the student community. This reflection strengthened my confidence and reminded me that the Lord is always with me, giving me courage and preventing me from losing hope, even in my darkest moments.

Over the three days of the retreat, I recognized the grace of God in my life—grace that I had often overlooked amidst the noise and distractions of daily life. This retreat helped me to recall and appreciate the experiences I had during my studies at ISJB. It was a memorable time, filled with reflections on God’s amazing grace and unfailing goodness. I was reminded of His constant protection and the strength He provides with every step I took.

Personally, I felt a deep sense of consolation during this retreat. I discovered truths about myself that had been hidden in silence. Jesus invited me to look back on my life’s events and experiences, to feel the difficult moments where His embrace sustained me through my wounds and challenges. Through these reflections, I learned to trust Him more deeply, to overcome my struggles, and to live in hope.

I was particularly moved by the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11–32), which Father Roberto used to reflect on God’s unconditional love. Despite my mistakes, God continues to love and embrace me, drawing me closer to Him.

Finally, during this retreat with my friends, Los Viajantes, at Montserrat, I prayed for the grace to have God’s love planted deeply in my heart so that I can live and proclaim His love to others.
