Bringing Clean Water and Hope to Timor-Leste: A Year of Blessings

The year 2025 has been a time of blessings for many families in Timor-Leste. Thanks to the dedication and compassion of many helping hands from the Jesuit Social Service (JSS) – WASH Program, and beneficiaries across the country are experiencing life-changing improvements in access to clean water and sanitation.

Working hand in hand with local communities, José, Satria, and Armand have played crucial roles in implementing the program. Together, they have brought clean water to families most in need and built vital sanitation facilities that promote health and dignity.

In order to deliver these essential services, this year, the team journeyed across remote rural areas of Timor-Leste, reaching villages such as Busadao, Suai (Suco Holpilat, Posto Maukatar), Nunboku, Leolima (Posto Hatu-Udo Coração de Jesus), Betufo (Suco Ailelo, Posto Hatulia A Saramata), and Ermera Villa—including Huitasu and Hamrik Metin.

Through the Water, Health, and Sanitation (WASH) program, JSS has successfully:

  • Constructed water tanks for 7 communities.
  • Built 28 units of toilets for rural families in several communities, including Suai, Leogore (6), Hato-Udo Raisoro (6), Matata Termasoru (3), Ulmera, Fatuglana (3), Tata, Ermera (6), and Railaku Leten, Ermera (4).

The generosity of so many people, especially Jesuits’ friends and donors has made this possible.

Thanks to their support, 907 beneficiaries from 315 households now have access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities — transforming their daily lives for the better.

They haven’t just given resources — they’ve given dignity, health, and hope. The smiles and laughter of the Timorese families as they receive these facilities are a true reflection of your kindness and the power of community.

From the bottom of our hearts, we at Jesuit Social Service, and on behalf of the people we serve, express our deepest gratitude to our friends, donors and benefactors who continue to make this impactful, life-changing mission possible.
