The Jesuits in the East Timor Region celebrated the Titular Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus on 3rd January 2026, together with the Bairro Calma and Centro Juvenile communities. The celebration brought together Jesuits, children and families in prayer, shared life and joyful encounter, reflecting the Ignatian call to live as companions in mission.
The day began with a pilgrimage from the Parish of the Immaculate Conception in Balide to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Vila-Verde, Dili. Walking together in prayer and reflection, the Jesuits took time to recall the meaning of the Holy Name of Jesus, under which the Society of Jesus lives and serves. This simple journey provided space for recollection and reflection, inviting the Jesuits to renew their commitment to humility, availability and service for the greater glory of God.

Later in the day, the wider community gathered at Centro Juvenile (Youth Centre) in Taibessi for the Celebration of the Eucharist, which constituted the spiritual heart of the feast and was celebrated in a spirit of gratitude and closeness. Centred on the Holy Name of Jesus, the Mass invited all present to reflect on how our faith is lived in concrete ways in our daily lives, through service, compassion and attention to others.

Following the Eucharist, the community shared a Thanksgiving meal, strengthening bonds of fraternity and belonging. A highlight of the gathering was a short drama presented by the Centro Juvenile children, depicting the joy of Christmas. Through simple gestures, songs and storytelling, the children shared a message of hope, peace and joy, reminding the community of the Gospel’s call to simplicity and trust.
The celebration was organized by Fr. Paulo Teia, SJ together with members of MAG+S Timor-Leste, who played an active role throughout the day. The gathering concluded with joyful games involving Jesuits, youth and children. These moments of shared laughter and play reflected the Ignatian ministry of accompaniment, where relationships are built through presence.

The celebration of the Holy Name of Jesus offered an opportunity for the Jesuit community in East Timor to give thanks for the gift of mission and collaboration. It reaffirmed the call to walk together with others, finding God in all things and serving others with hope, joy and fidelity.
