I have learned many forms of Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, but the Examen of Conscience has truly moved my heart since the very first time I practiced it during my MAG+S Youth Formation Gathering. That gathering, held on July 22, 2019, was the beginning of my spiritual journey. Reflecting on that day, I now realize it was the moment I truly felt God’s presence within me—when I was first guided to review and reflect on my day with deep awareness. Our formation concluded on November 22, 2019, and the transformation I experienced in those months continues to shape me.
Since that time, I have come to see how deeply MAG+S Formation has influenced my life. As a young Catholic navigating the struggles of life—and often struggling with myself—I began to discover who I truly am. Through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, I slowly reshaped my character with more positivity, purpose and, faith.
Before joining MAG+S, I often only turned to God when I had problems. I would question His presence in my difficult moments—perhaps a very human reaction. Ignatian Spirituality has changed the way I approach my problems and life’s challenges. Now, especially through the Examen of Conscience, I’ve learned to find God in all things, even in pain and hardship.
Whenever I face challenges or obstacles, I ask: Where is God in these? That shift in perspective has strengthened my spirit and taught me resilience. I hold tightly to the MAG+S spirit, and though it’s not always easy, I’ve remained committed to practicing the Spiritual Exercises in my daily life.
One of the greatest gifts of this spirituality is the habit of praying the Examen twice a day—once at midday and once before bed. It is a simple but powerful prayer that helps me reflect on the moments I’ve lived and discover how God was present in them. More than that, it sharpens my spiritual sensitivity, allowing me to recognize God’s grace even in ordinary moments.
I still remember vividly the first time we were asked to pray the Examen during the MAG+S Gathering. We were invited to close our eyes and feel God’s presence. That process deeply touched me—I fell in love with it. From that moment, I made a personal promise to complete the formation, and I did. Today, I am still an active member of the MAG+S community in Timor-Leste.
My life has been transformed. Those closest to me have noticed the positivity and peace I now carry. God has shown me His love in countless ways—through my personal prayer, my studies, my activities, and my relationships. My connection with God continues to deepen every day.
To have lived these moments is a grace. And this grace is not just for me—I share it with my family, my friends, and my fellow Belun Espiritual (Spiritual Friends) in MAG+S. This journey of transformation has led to growth, gratitude, and a heart full of joy.
