Colégio Santo Inácio de Loiola (CSIL)-Kasait is one of the Jesuits’ education projects. The school has brought many positive impacts to the young generation, not only for themselves but also for the community where they live. Billia Odete Faria Freitas, a 16-year-old student currently in Grade 11C, studying in the Science and Technology field, has been part of CSIL for five years. During this time, she has gained many valuable experiences.
As she reflected on her daily routine at school, she realized how valuable CSIL is and how much it helps her learn and grow into a better person. “One of the most significant aspects is spiritual formation, which has helped me strengthen my faith through activities such as retreats and recollections. These experiences have encouraged me to be more dedicated to attending Mass and living my faith in daily life.”
For Billia, the environment at CSIL has been the most influential in helping her discover the best version of herself. “The school has also helped me develop my character and emotional growth, along with academic support through various activities like Language Week, Science Week and other extracurricular activities that allow us to learn new things beyond the classroom. I have always received encouragement and guidance from my teachers, who are always willing to help,” she affirmed.
Billia also had the opportunity to participate in the Education Cluster Meeting held several months ago, organized by the East Timor Region (ETR) Regional Superior, Pe. Erik John J. Gerilla, SJ, together with teachers and directors from all Jesuit education projects in the region.
“Another unforgettable opportunity was when I participated in the Education Cluster held by the Jesuits in Timor-Leste. This was my first time being part of such an important gathering, where I had the chance to interact with directors, priests, professors, and other key figures. I am very grateful to CSIL for giving me the opportunity to represent the school and be part of this event,” she stated.
Reflecting on her participation, she said, “I realized how much Jesuit education respects the voice of students and truly involves us in the process of learning and growing.”
After almost five years of her journey with Colégio Santo Inácio de Loiola, Billia reflected that the school is not only a place to study but also a second home, where she has been helped to become a better person. “I have learned how to interact with others, I started to understand myself, and I have encouraged myself to contribute to the community,” she shared.
Billia’s story is a testimony that CSIL is more than just a place to attend classes; it helps build a meaningful journey for the young generation who study there. Lastly, she said, “The formation we receive is holistic, taking into account not only our academic growth but also our human and spiritual development, and it helps us become men and women for and with others.”
