Casa Produção Audiovisual Newsletter: Empowering Voices, Enriching Lives

We are thrilled to introduce you to our esteemed media director, Rui Muakandala, whose journey from a former Jesuit to the helm of Casa Produção Audiovisual (CPA).

After his discernment led him to depart from his journey as a Jesuit scholastic, fate intervened, bringing him back to serve in God’s mission for the Jesuits. In 2018, he assumed the role of director at Casa Produção Audiovisual, a Jesuit media institution, overseeing its operations and furthering its mission.

Reflecting on his journey, Rui acknowledges the invaluable role his Jesuit background has played in shaping his decision-making process. Rooted in faith and guided by discernment, Rui emphasizes the importance of mission-oriented decisions, recognizing that every choice comes with consequences. For him, commitment to these decisions lies at the heart of fulfilling CPA’s mission.

“Making decisions can be challenging, especially when faced with confrontational situations that may not align with reality. I am grateful for my background as a former Jesuit, as it heavily influences my decision-making process, which often involves discernment. However, even when decisions are well-considered, they inevitably carry consequences. The crucial question is: Are you committed to the decisions you make? My decisions are always mission-oriented, driven by the pursuit of fulfilling our mission.” – Rui Muakandala, Director of CPA, reflects.

As he continued to explained, “the mission of CPA is to give voice to the voiceless, to illuminate the joy of life through our work, and to bring happiness to marginalized communities, particularly those in rural areas. We aim to amplify the voices of women, youth, and the economically disadvantaged.”

To achieve CPA mission and goals, Director Rui is dedicated to ensuring the smooth operation of projects and the institution itself. While the work is challenging, it remains deeply engaging. As he stated, “Managing people is the greatest challenge. It requires skill in guiding the team onto the same path and ensuring they understand my leadership approach. Additionally, navigating governmental regulations regarding media content, maintaining relationships with donors upon whom our projects depend, and grasping the complexities of society pose ongoing challenges. We are immensely grateful for the support of the Jesuits team and our donors.”

The essence of CPA lies in its embodiment of Christ’s mission, a cornerstone of all Jesuit endeavors. We are deeply gratified by the enriching and fulfilling impact of CPA’s work, particularly in uplifting the vulnerable. Director Rui finds profound fulfillment in his role, recognizing that his work not only enriches his professional life but also adds meaning and purpose to his existence.

“To be completely honest, being a part of CPA and working here brings me immense joy because I find the work deeply fulfilling. Providing a platform for the voiceless, empowering individuals to speak their truth and express themselves freely – it’s a noble endeavor. Witnessing the tangible impact of our efforts in fulfilling our missions reinforces my passion for this work.” Rui expressed.

At this juncture, it’s evident that CPA’s efforts align closely with the Apostolic Plan (2019-2026). Through their initiatives with youth and society, their endeavors to facilitate equal access for the vulnerable to government resources, and their role in encouraging societal participation in national development, CPA is actively contributing to the realization of the plan’s objectives.

The majority of the CPA team consists of young individuals who bring a refreshing eagerness to learn and an open-minded dedication to the mission. Presently, the CPA institution comprises 20 team members actively working towards fulfilling CPA shared mission.

As a religious organization, CPA plays a vital role in bringing peace, prosperity, and love to society. Director Rui emphasizes, “In a world increasingly dominated by technology, which often threatens to overshadow human capabilities, the presence of religious organizations becomes crucial. They serve as reminders, prompting us to remain aware of human conditions, to rediscover the purpose and meaning of our lives, and to partake in the spiritual nourishment offered at the table of the Lord.”

We hope that the presence of CPA can bring happiness to people, as the director of CPA wishes for his team. Through their endeavors, they aim to bring joy to marginalized people and empower them towards independence. As Rui explained, “The staff at CPA and the Jesuits in Timor strive to counteract the pervasive influence of artificiality in the world, as it increasingly diminishes human connections day by day.”

CPA extends a warm welcome to individuals who share the same mission as the Jesuits in Timor-Leste. If you aspire to make a meaningful impact on society through media institutions, CPA offers an excellent opportunity for you. By joining CPA team, you not only contribute to making a positive difference in the lives of others but also discover the fulfilling joy of serving others in your own life.
