Embarking on a journey with MAG+S is more than just a physical trek; it’s a profound transformation that delves deep into one’s soul. Meet Alvaro and Gracieta, whose lives have been touched and changed by their experiences with MAG+S.
Alvaro’s journey with MAG+S began in 2019, starting with a nine-month formation alongside fellow Mag+ser. Through this period, Alvaro underwent significant personal growth, learning the values of discipline, respect for family, friends, and society, and embracing goodness in every aspect of life. Reflecting on his experience, Alvaro emphasizes that MAG+S is not merely a religious institution but a place where individuals are nurtured through the fruits of the Holy Spirit. He found acceptance, understanding, and support from his peers, enabling him to confront his weaknesses and past mistakes.
Grateful for the guidance of his Team Leader, Ester, Alvaro credits her presence during his formative months, especially as he began to sense the presence of the Holy Spirit. This spiritual awakening led him to introspection and self-recognition, fostering genuine connections and friendships within MAG+S. Alvaro acknowledges his past shortcomings, particularly in how he treated his family, but through MAG+S’ spiritual exercises and community support, he has embraced a new way of living—one filled with gratitude, empathy, and love for others.
For Gracieta, who was already familiar with Ignatian Spirituality through her CSIL alumni status, joining MAG+S provided a deeper perspective on life’s intricacies and the presence of God in everyday moments. Through MAG+S, Gracieta developed a heightened appreciation for life’s small blessings and found solace in journaling as a means to communicate with Jesus.
One of the most unforgettable moments occurred during MAG+S’ peregrination from Manatuto Obrato to Hera, where all Mag+ser walked together for two days. Gracieta vividly recalls feeling the palpable presence of the Holy Spirit and sensing angelic guidance throughout the journey. She recounts a particular instance when a stranger unexpectedly crossed paths with them, driving a car. This stranger kindly reminded them to move to the other side of the road, ensuring their safety from oncoming traffic. In that moment, Gracieta realized that this act of kindness was not merely human, but a manifestation of the Holy Spirit’s love and protection for the Mag+ser.
Gracieta beautifully articulates the profound connection she feels with the divine through journaling: “Every occurrence holds purpose, orchestrated by the glory of God. Yet, amidst it all, my greatest joy since joining MAG+S has been found in journaling. It’s my sanctuary—a sacred space where I pour out my heart to Jesus, expressing every facet of my day, my emotions, and my deepest thoughts without reservation.”
Both Alvaro and Gracieta express their hopes for MAG+S to continue providing opportunities for young people to experience spiritual growth and God’s presence in their lives. They believe in the importance of sharing their experiences and encouraging others to embrace their true selves, live authentically, and pursue their dreams with conviction.
